Retrospective view of Croatia
Pax-kinderhulp (children’s aid) have offered a large group of children a holiday in the Netherlands in the beginning of the nineties. After the fighting in Bosnia they turned their focus directly to this country.
However we have received signals, recently, from Vukovar and its surroundings and come to learn that the situation is no different from Bosnia. This being the result and combination of economic depression and traumatized parents.
Despite the fact that a great deal of work has to be done for the coming years ahead in Bosnia The Pax kinderhulp have decided to also offer the children from east Croatia (Slavonia) a holiday in the Netherlands.
Staying in the Netherlands
Our objectives are children from the age of 8 to 12 years from all different ethnic groups.
They will travel by bus to the Netherlands. Two children are placed in each guest-family where they stay for three weeks en fully function as a member of the family.
There will also be a program where all the Croation children can actively participate as a group.
Children’s holiday
Everyone is familiar with the images of those days. The entire city of Vucovar had been abandoned for a long time and many of the inhabitants found their homes completely destroyed when they returned. Also many homes were occupied by refugees.
Although not all the children were in this war, they are exposed to the traumas of their parents.
By giving these children a chance to participate in our programme we can give them hope for the future.
Guidance
A number of Croation attenders will accompany the children during their holiday. They shall assist the local workgroup during their stay in the Netherlands.
Expenses
With the benefits of campaigns and gifts we cover the expenses made for the trip to the Netherlands by bus and all other activities.
Any expenses made for doctors, dentists etc. are fully covered by the Pax-kinderhulp. For the hostfamilies costs are limited to the costs they make within their family sa. meals and drinks.
